About Us

ROTARY was founded in the year 1905 and is one of the largest and the oldest NGO engaged in humanitarian activities worldwide. Rotary’s activities are spread through 1.2 million members in 32,000 clubs in 200 countries.

Rotary is made up of three parts. At the heart of Rotary are our clubs, that are supported by Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation.

Rotary clubs bring together dedicated individuals to exchange ideas, build relationship, and take actions.

Rotary International SUPPORTS Rotary clubs worldwide by coordinating global programs, campaigns and initiatives.

Rotary Foundation use generous donations to fund projects by Rotarians and our partners in communities around the world. As a nonprofit, all of the Foundation’s funding comes from voluntary contribution made by Rotarians and friends from across the globe.

Rotary Club of Bombay Uptown is part of “Rotary International District 3140”, which covers entire Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan. The club was chartered on 23rd March, 1970 with 60 members. The first Charter President was Rtn. Sharadchandra Maheshwari. The Charter was presented to the Club in a grand ceremony at Crystal Room, Hotel Taj on 8th June, 1970. The Club then used to meet at V.J.T.I. auditorium. It was later shifted to Gujarati Club, Matunga and subsequently to Rotary Center, Wadala.

Acheivements

  • A Check Dam was constructed at Mokhada village in Thane district to alleviate the acute water situation there along with 5 other clubs at a cost of Rs. 11.0 lakh.
  • Solar Energy system of 11kw was provided at Amulakh Amichand School along with a German Rotary Club (Nurnberg-Reichwald, Dist 1880) and RC of Mumbai Sion at a cost of Rs.25.0 lakhs.

A trust named “Rotary Club of Bombay Uptown Charitable Trust” was formed and registered with Charity Commissioner on 10th Oct, 1970. The Trust enjoys the benefit of sec 80G of IT Act.

Our Major project in perpetuity of “Garden for Differently Abled”  was undertaken in the year 1983-84 and is one of its kind in R.I.Dist.3140.

An Inner Wheel Club was formed on 26th March, 1971 with 14 members under President Mrs. Meera S. Maheshwari and Charter was presented to them on 27th Nov., 1971.

Our club has sponsored Rotaract Club of Bombay Uptown,  which is very vibrant and provides great plate form to the youth to develop themselves and at the same time contribute to the society. One of our Rotaractor Rtr.Hemang Jakhia has become DRR, which is a big achievement.

We have also sponsored Interact Club of Amulakh Amichand High School and Senior Citizen Club of RCBU.
